Jennifer OtienoChief Executive Officer
Jennifer Cotter Otieno, Founder and CEO, has 20 years of experience working with innovative education and youth employment organizations, with a focus on education technology and alternative learning models. She has worked with school systems, nonprofits, for-profits, foundations, governments, startups, investors and accelerators to create greater impact for youth and adults across the globe. In addition to work with EDU, Jennifer is the cofounder of EdTech East Africa, a network of over 3600 edtech professionals across the region, and a member of the Expert Pool for The EdTech Hub, an initiative of DFID, the World Bank and the Gates Foundatin. Previously Jennifer served as the Chief Executive Officer of Spire Education, a soft skills training company based in Nairobi and serving youth and companies across East Africa which was acquired by Shortlist Professionals in 2017. Prior to Spire, Jennifer led a global team at General Assembly where she spearheaded the design and scale of outcomes and community efforts. Jennifer also served as Vice President for the boutique education consultancy, Collaborative Communications Group. Jennifer has a master’s degree in International Education Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania. She has taken courses in System Design and User Experience Design at General Assembly. She is also a former fellow and coordinator of the Education Policy Fellowship Program, hosted by the Institute for Educational Leadership.
